Advantage Chelsea after Bridge battle

Chelsea take a 2-1 lead into the Carling Cup semi-final second-leg against Everton after an entertaining match.

Joleon Lescott headed the ball into his own net under pressure from Shaun Wright-Phillips in injury time to hand Chelsea the initiative in the first-leg at Stamford Bridge.
Ayegbeni Yakubu appeared to have secured a draw when he struck a superb second-half equaliser but Lescott's late own-goal has shifted the momentum in Chelsea's direction.

magnificent strike

Wright-Phillips had earlier fired Chelsea into a first half lead with a magnificent strike that curled beyond Tim Howard in the Everton goal.
But the 55th minute dismissal of Blues midfielder Mikel John Obi for a one-footed challenge on Phil Neville saw the initiative change hands and Everton capitalised through Yakubu. The second-leg will take place at Goodison Park on 23rd January.
