Bolton claim last-gasp victory

GREECE international Stelios Giannakopolous earned Bolton vital points with a stoppage-time winner against bottom club Derby Country.

Both teams had plenty of chances in a lively contest. Craig Fagan had an early shot turned away by Jussi Jaaskelainen, before Kevin Nolan's volley went just over the bar from 15 metres.

Fagan came close again, when his header from an Eddie Lewis corner was tipped over the bar in a breathtaking save by Jaaskelainen. Then Michael Johnson's superb effort curled onto the crossbar from 20 metres.

Derby pressed their advantage, hoping to make the most of the attacking pressure against the home side in the first half.

But they couldn't make the break through and Bolton boss Gary Megson replaced Kevin Davies with Christian Wilhelmsson.

The Swede made an immediate impact on the wing, as Bolton began to peg the visitors back. Nicolas Anelka went close with a 20-metre rocket and El Hadji Diouf had the ball in the net but was correctly adjudged offside.

When Nolan somehow put Anelka's cross over the bar from just one metre out, it looked as though the game was headed for a stalemate.

But in the final minute, Jaaskelainen lofted a long ball forward and Giannakopolous collected, lifting the ball over Lewis Price and nodded the ball home to seal victory.
