Catania snatch semi-final spot on away goals

Catania left it late to reach the Italian Cup semi-finals on away goals after Takayuki Morimoto's 89th-minute strike secured a 2-1 home win over Udinese on Wednesday.

Catania looked on their way out after missing a host of chances before the Japanese forward turned in Juan Manuel Vargas's excellent low cross to make the scores 4-4 on aggregate.

Simone Pepe gave the visitors the lead inside the first minute when he bundled home a corner at the far post.

The hosts equalised just before halftime through Gionatha Spinesi's penalty after Damiano Ferronetti was adjudged to have pulled down striker Giuseppe Mascara.

Catania will play Roma in a two-legged semi-final in April and May after the holders beat Sampdoria 2-1 on aggregate following Tuesday's 1-0 second leg win.

Later on Wednesday Fiorentina welcome Lazio with the Rome side holding a 2-1 advantage while Juventus entertain Inter Milan with the scores level at 2-2 from the first leg.
