Real Madrid - Real Zaragoza

Madrid could end the day anywhere between four and ten points clear of Barcelona, but they need to overcome Zaragoza first.

While it's true that the visitors are on a poor run of late, the Merengues must remember that the last result between the sides was a 2-2 draw at the Romareda deep at the end of last season, and one that could on another day have wrecked their title hopes.

Zaragoza, meanwhile, almost became the only Primera side to fall foul of lower-league opposition in the Copa when they needed a last-minute goal to scrape past Pontevedra of the Segunda B.

That wily old name of Spanish football - which graced the Primera itself within living memory - should have been no match for the blanquillos, but they so nearly were.

One wonders if coach Victor Fernandez can weather the storm regardless of the result, but - of course - other teams endured similar frights midweek.
