Vagabond in the fast lane

Sergiu Radu has played for seven clubs and in three countries since 2000.

And he has always managed to climb the career ladder one more step and has grown in his footballing qualities.
Radu started his career for Rapid Bucharest (1998 - 2000) before joining city rivals National (2000 - 03). Afterwards he went to French club Le Mans UC 72 for one and a half years before he returned to National.

Instant hit in Cottbus

Another six months later the striker with two strong feet was on his way to Germany. Cottbus was his destination, thanks to his advisor Vasile Miriuta, a former Energie player.
Radu was an instant hit. He became Energie's top goal-scorer with twelve goals, helping them to win promotion to the Bundesliga, and he even went one better with 14 goals in the top flight last season. His outstanding performances attracted many clubs, and VfL Wolfsburg secured his services in the summer of 2007. But Radu failed to settle down, scoring two goals in just eleven appearances.

Loan deal

That didn't stop VfB Stuttgart to secure his services on a loan deal until the end of the season, and the defending champions then have the option to make the deal permanent.
"I didn't hesitate when VfB's offer was on the table. I want to make the next important step in my career by all means", Radu explains.

Goals have changed

The striker has done everything right, it seems, after all he will be playing for the defending champions in the next months. And the goals have changed, too: staying up with Cottbus, upper half of the table with the "Wolves", now a place in Europe with Stuttgart.
"I want to help VfB to play a good second half of the season. Stuttgart belong into Europe. That has to be our goal, and I want to make a contribution as big as possible", Radu says.

European dreams

The Romanian also hopes for more call-ups to the national team. He has already played in a friendly against Germany (1-3) and a Euro qualifier against Belarus (3-1).
"I have to play well and regularly at VfB. Then I have a chance to play a part in Euro 2008", Radu explains. He'll surely give it his best shot.
