Ajax lose ground on PSV Eindhoven

Ajax Amsterdam were held to a 2-2 draw by Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch league on Sunday to stay five points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.PSV, 2-1 winners against Excelsior Rotterdam on Saturday, are top with 46 points after 21 matches and travel to their Amsterdam rivals on Wednesday.

Mads Junker put Vitesse ahead after six minutes but early in the second half Ajax struck twice in five minutes.First Urby Emanuelson came through the centre to level the score, then Klaas Jan Huntelaar set up Uruguayan Luis Suarez to grab the lead.

Ten minutes into the second half Vitesse replied when Harry Gommans struck from close range.Feyenoord climbed to third with 40 points after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Groningen, who remain fifth with 40 points after 22 matches on goal difference behind Heerenveen, who beat Graafschap Doetinchem 3-0 on Saturday.

Groningen opened the scoring through Marcus Berg after 31 minutes, while an own goal by Mark Jan Fledderus brought Feyenoord level on the stroke of halftime.

In the relegation zone Heracles Almelo thrashed VVV Venlo 5-0 with Srdan Lakic twice on target, while second-half goals by Jhonny van Beukering and Brett Holman earned NEC Nijmegen a 2-0 home victory over Utrecht.
