New Scotland manager George Burley will choose between Terry Butcher and Steven Pressley for his assistant in the next couple of days.Burley was confirmed as Alex McLeish's successor on Thursday and the race to become his right-hand man appears to have become a two-horse race.
Butcher, who had a successful spell in charge of Premier League side Motherwell, is available following his sacking by Brentford, while Celtic's veteran defender Pressley, 34, is looking to forge a career in coaching. And Burley has promised to waste no time in selecting his preferred candidate.
'I've spoken to both of them and we'll be having a meeting early next week to try to finalise,' he told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme.
'Both are people I know well, experienced, and top professionals.
'Steven's a young coach who's coming to the end of his playing career and has a big future I'm sure in coaching and management.
'Terry is someone I played with who did very well at Motherwell, very much a winner, very enthusiastic, motivated, and hopefully we'll get that sorted out at the beginning of next week.'
