Stuttgart Head Coach Armin Veh has started preparations for the second half of the season. Thurdsday saw the first training sessions.
After a brief team talk, the reigning Bundesliga champions underwent obligatory lactate tests. For that, the squad took to their bikes at a cycling racetrack near the club's stadium. Split up into three groups, the players had to complete several laps of the circuit , during which blood samples were taken from them. Under the ever-watchful eyes of Armin Veh, all players excluding Cacau, Arthur Boka, Gorges Mandjeck, Ludovic Magnin and Mario Gomez underwent the test.
Boka to play in the African Cup of Nations
Cacau is currently udergoing rehabilitation training following his disclocated shoulder, while Arthur Boka is already with the Cameroon national squad. The defender, who has made six appearances for Stuttgart thus far this season, is preparing for the African Cup of Nations, which starts in Ghana on January 20th. Georges Mandjeck is undergoing trials with 2. Bundesliga outfit SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The midfielder will not be travelling with the rest of the squad to the training camp in Dubai. Ludovic Magnin is still in rehabilitation training after recovering from a torn ligament, where as star striker Mario Gomez is currently confided to exercising in the gym. However, both players will make the trip to Dubai.
New faces in the squad
30 year-old Romanian Sergui Radu, who joined Stuttgart on loan from league rivals VfL Wolfsburg, took part in the lactate tests, as did two talents from Stuttgart's amateur team. Sven Ulreich and Chritsian Träsch have thus far only played for the amateurs in the Regional League (South). However, they have been given a great opportunity to show what they are capable of. They'll also be making the trip to the Dubai training camp.
